Coffee Percs

After a few hours of much needed sleep, he gathered a small amount of wood to build their fire for coffee.”

Come in, pard, come in…ain’t no use you lookin’ ’round for another place to go; you’ve found it. Rule of any camp or bunkhouse or home is that first one up makes the coffee and I’ve made it hot and strong hoping that you’d show up.
Since our last get-together things have sure happened and changed. This Perc is comin’ at you from East Texas. Little steamy this morning compared to San Antonio, but it is what it is. The missus and I are bunkin’ for a spell with the youngest and her family. Always told her there would be a pay-back time. Sold the old homestead and are currently homeless–poor us. Nah, the truth of the matter is that either of our daughters would take us in and give us room, and most likely board as well. The closin’ of the house went smooth, thank the good Lord.
Sure were grateful for my friends in ol’ San Antonio. They were so gracious in feedin’ us that last week. Sayin’ adios is not always easy, but I’m sure plannin’ on not makin’ it permanent. People tend to say, we’ll see you, but then it never happens. Well, over the years I’ve sure gathered ’round some good pards. Good ones are those you can ride the river with, those that you can trust and that’s sure comfortin’.
Haven’t seen the news in the past few days, so the gizzard ain’t too riled. It was actin’ up enough tryin’ to sell the house with all the doin’s that go with that. Hope the coffee is alright; different pot and I have to get used to it. Sometimes I just miss the ol’ enamel pot and boilin’ it over the campfire or on the stove. Now we have all kinds of gadgets and more gadgets, and then there are the fancy gadgets, but none make the coffee any better. Those folk just want you to be spendin’ your hard-earned money on their products.
Makes me smile to know that you found me on this Saturday. Mercy! Can you imagine, half of the year is gone; it’s the first of July! I’m not sure what’s the day has for me since we’ve just threw our bedrolls in the bunkhouse, but you can be sure that if I go out I’ll check my cinch as I don’t know this territory very well.
