Echoes From the Campfire

Men who were used to working on a ranch didn’t have to wait for directions or orders. They just did what was necessary.”

–Cliff Hudgins  (Viejo and the Outlaw)

“…Let me see your face; let me hear your voice. For your voice is pleasant, and your face is lovely.”
                    –Song of Solomon 2:14(NLT)

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
                    –Psalm 16:11 (ESV)

“I’m desperate for You,” is a song that is often sung.  Hmmm, but is the person who sings really desperate?  Singing and talking is one thing, but is there purpose and real desire behind it, or is it something that is just sung?  Charles G. Finney wrote about his experience.  “I found I could not live without enjoying the presence of God; and if at any time a dark streak came over me, I could not rest, I could not study, I could not attend to anything with the least satisfaction or benefit, until the medium was again opened between my soul and God.”  –I’m desperate for You.
What is it that might distract us?  What is it that keeps us from seeking Him wholeheartedly?  What is that keeps us from serving Him with undying devotion?  Do we truly hunger and thirst after righteousness?  –I’m desperate for You.  Read the words of Augustine and see his heart beating to have more of the Lord Jesus Christ.  “I tasted, and still hunger and thirst.  Thou touchedst me, and I burned for Thy peace….  And now my whole life is nothing but in thine exceeding great mercy.  Give what Thou commandest, and commend what Thou wilt.”
Don’t make excuses that you didn’t know the way.  It isn’t hidden, it is plain to see.  The Holy Spirit is our Guide, follow His directions, step in His steps.  Get a grip, get a firm grip on the way that you should go.  Don’t waver!  “Settle this point then, first of all, and let no suggestion of doubt turn you from a steadfast faith in regard to it, that Divine guidance has been promised, and that, if you seek it, you are sure to receive it.” (Hannah Whitall Smith)    –I’m desperate for You.  I like the way the NLT puts the above Psalm,
“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”  Assurance, confidence, trust, faithfulness–it is all there, He will…!
