To each of us is given a life. To live with honor and to pass on having left our mark, it is only essential that we do our part, that we leave our children strong. Nothing exists long when its time is past. Wealth is important only to the small of mind. The important thing is to do the best one can with what one has.”
–Louis L’Amour (Hondo)
“For what has man for all his labor, and for the striving of his heart with which he has toiled under the sun?”
–Ecclesiastes 2:22(NKJV)

I trust that you enjoy our Monday mornings when we look at the Psalms. There is so much in this one book for us. It shows us how life really is, and then how the believer should react to the reality of life. Remember, reality is in God. The Lord wants us to worship Him in spirit and truth (truth means “reality). We are to worship in our everyday lives, in all events of our everyday lives–in other words worship in reality. The Psalms help us to do that.
Looking at the second part of Psalm 62 it seems that much of it surely does relate to today–reality.
8 — Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah
9 — Surely men of low degree are a vapor, Menn of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, They are altogether lighter than vapor.
10 — Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your hearts on them.
11 — God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.
12 — Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; For You render to each one according to his work. (NKJV)
The name of the game is power and control. Man gets caught up on who’s famous, who’s rich, and who has the power. From God’s perspective these individuals are “lighter than vapor,” or as a “puff of air” (NLT). All of their power, all of their strength and wealth cannot add one ounce to their weight in the eternal scheme of things. I know of an individual who is greatly concerned in regard to getting “money and things.” What is he going to do with them? Verse 10, from the NLT, states, “don’t make it the center of your life.” The “it” is wealth/possessions.
I have made it a goal in life to not become a millionaire and so far this is one goal in which I have succeeded. (I’m being facetious). If I had money, what would I do with it? Most likely I would give it away–philanthropy, they call it.
As we go through life we are to trust in the Lord. Power belongs to Him. He is in control and when we finally realize that, life will be easier to handle. Look around, especially at those who call themselves leadership. “Don’t invest in hot air; instead, ‘trust in Him at all times’ and reap an eternal reward of immeasurable weight.” (William J. Petersen).
“Simply trusting ev’ry day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus–that is all.”
